Privacy
The short version. This is a private, invite-only family app. What you put in it is used to run the app for you and your household — nothing else. No ads, no tracking for marketing, and your information is never sold.
What the app keeps
- Your account: name, email address, and the household(s) you belong to.
- What you add: recipes and their photos, meal plans, shopping lists, pantry items, prices you enter or scan from receipts, ratings and favorites.
- Household settings: meal times, time zone, and a ZIP code or approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) used for local price estimates.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, a push-notification address for your device, plus a 30-day log of whether each notification was delivered.
- Error reports: when something you try fails, the error message the app showed, which screen you were on and the app version, kept so problems get fixed. Only the app’s owner sees these.
- Family survey: if you answer the optional in-app survey, your answers (or that you chose “not now”).
Receipt and nutrition-label photos are read once to pull out what you bought or what the label says, and are not stored.
Who can see it
- Members of your household see your household’s recipes, plans, lists and pantry.
- Recipes you choose to share with another family household are visible to that household.
- Survey answers are seen only by you and the app’s owner (David), who uses them to decide what to build.
- Prices: households may pool average grocery prices by ZIP code to improve estimates. Pooled prices never show who paid them.
Services the app relies on
- Supabase stores the app’s data and runs its server functions. Netlify hosts the website. A daily encrypted backup is kept on Cloudflare R2.
- Google Gemini processes the text, links or photos you give the AI features (importing a recipe, scanning a receipt, Ask, read-aloud). Only what that feature needs is sent.
- Apple / Google push services deliver notifications to your device.
- Kroger (optional, only if your household links a Kroger-family store): the app asks Kroger for nearby stores by ZIP code and for store prices by product search words (e.g. “half and half”). Your name, email and lists are not sent to Kroger. Kroger prices are shown live and are not stored. They’re for planning: please don’t copy them into the app as prices you paid — enter what you actually paid at the register (Kroger’s terms ask apps and their users not to keep copies of its data).
Your choices
- Turn notifications on or off any time in Settings.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or for your account and data to be deleted, by contacting the app’s owner, David Vernon. Household data shared with others stays with the household unless everyone agrees to remove it.
Changes
If this changes in a way that matters, the app’s “What’s new” notes will say so.
